“Profoundly misleading” Tory crime stats – 8 in the morning, February 4th

* Chris Grayling’s use of crime statistics has been slammed as “profoundly misleading” by Tory colleague Iain Duncan Smith.

* MPs are braced for a “devastating” final verdict from Sir Thomas Legg, as Legg will order £1 million to be repaid by 350 MPs.

* Boris Johnson’s Tory administration in London is to cut the number of police officers in the capital, despite him campaigning for election on making crime-fighting his top priority.

* David Freud, now an adviser to the Conservatives, has praised the government for saving up to 500,000 jobs during the recession.

* Gordon Brown will give an hour’s interview on his “Life Story” to Piers Morgan, to be broadcast on February 14th.

* David Cameron says a Tory Government would grant no new rights for gays.

* Charles Clarke has called on Gordon Brown to increase taxes in order to deal with the deficit.

* The successful car scrappage scheme will be extended for another month to the end of March.
