Sky News is reporting that Gordon Brown will resign as Prime Minister tonight, and that the Tories and Liberal Democrats are “very, very close” to finalising a deal on coalition government.
Ministers have been coming and going from Downing Street with grim faces throughout the afternoon. Unless things change again very dramatically, thirteen years of Labour government will be over tonight and the party will regroup in opposition.
