Pete Hoskin has written a couple of good pieces this weekend about the Mandelson book and how it might affect the leadership race – as well as some deeper analysis of the Miliband drama for US site The Daily Beast.
On Saturday, Pete started out with his piece on the “Brit Brothers“, writing about “emotions spilling out all over the place” behind the scenes. It’s one of the best summaries I’ve read so far about the Miliband sub-drama.
Almost as an accompanying piece, he wrote yesterday about the immediate impact of Mandelson’s memoirs, and the potential pros and cons of a very public, recriminatory Blairite-Brownite post-mortem. In the end, Pete says, the coalition will be the biggest beneficiaries of this knives out period. I agree.
And this morning, Pete’s splashed together five of the key points from the serialisation of Mandelson’s book from the Times this morning – especially worthwhile if you’re on the wrong side of the Times paywall.
Although he normally writes for the Spectator, Pete’s a sharp, sensible, non-partisan, centre-ground journalist. I’d recommend checking in with his pieces on a drama which looks certain to dominate the news agenda and the leadership contest this week and beyond.
