Updated: James Lyons from the Mirror suggests that Cameron knew about the Royal Wedding announcement when the vanity staff were axed. It looks like this may be a day for burying bad news. We’ll be keeping an eye out for further examples – including using the #buryingbadnews hashtag on twitter.
After coming under repeated scrunity over his hiring of “vanity staff”, David Cameron has “reversed his decision to employ a personal photographer and camerawoman at the taxpayers’ expense”, according to the BBC.
This decision comes only two weeks after the vanity staff were hired and perhaps suggests that Cameron is embarrassed by the level of scrutiny that he has faced over his appointments. Like the famous image of him cycling to work followed by a car, or the excessive airbrushing of his face in party posters, it appears that the PM is most concerned when people attack his vanity.
After adding so many public sector workers to the unemployment figures, it is perhaps heartening to hear that Cameron has found both members of staff alternative employment – at CCHQ. Both will now be employed by the Conservative Party, as they were prior to Cameron’s dubious decision to add them to the public payroll.
