Nick Clegg yesterday:
“Speaking as the leader of the Liberal Democrats, I can confirm that, as of today, we are making sure that advertisements for internships are name and school blind, so that there is a completely level playing field, and that proper remuneration is provided to those who secure internships.“
Lib Dems later yesterday:
In a similar vein, has anyone asked the Liberal Democrats why on April 4th (the day before Clegg’s announcement), their webpage on internships was updated. There was certainly no mention of pay either – the word “voluntary” appears in the first sentence. This sounds like exactly the kind of thing Clegg was trying to clamp down on. Were Cowley Street not given any warning of the DPMs announcement?
