It’s a big day in the commons today, with what is likely to be a highly charged PMQs followed by hours of emergency debate on the phone hacking scandal. It’s surely inconceivable that Miliband could avoid talking about phone hacking at PMQs, isn’t it? But what angle to take? How far does he want to force the issue, and how much does this really hurt Cameron? So far, he has managed to stay reletively aloof. News that the families of 7/7 victims were also targetted by the News of the World will only ramp up the pressure on events further.
Elsewhere, Angela Eagle has warned that the public sector penshion shake up is part of a privatisation plot, and there’s an interesting article from ConHome’s Tim Montgomerie in The Times(£), that argues for Ed Miliband to be replaced, for the benefit of David Cameron. His argument goes that Cameron needs a sparring partner worthy of his talents. Evidently Tim has missed the last three PMQs. We hope he’ll be watching today.
