There’s a very telling graph in the Guardian today showing how confidence in the two main parties to handle the economy has chanegd in recent months:
As you can see, Labour are barely more trusted than before, but confidence in the Tories to manage the economy has collapsed. Interestingly, Labour’s surge in perceived competence came before the Tory collapse – with Labour’s improvement being more directly attributable to the Budget (and the 50p tax cut). Perhaps that suggests that Labour should be focussing further on making those at the top of society “paying their fair share”.
