GQ asked me where I’d be watching Margaret Thatcher’s funeral today. Here’s what I told them:
“I’ll be watching Margaret Thatcher’s funeral on TV. I certainly won’t be with the crowds lining the streets, but I won’t be burying my head in the sand and pretending it isn’t happening either. This is clearly a significant national moment, and a sad one for her family, her supporters and those who worked with her. But I’ll weep no tears for Thatcher, preserving such thoughts and feelings for the shattered lives in the communities of the North East, Scotland, Liverpool, Wales and elsewhere that were hit so hard during her years in power.”
