Labour MPs and Equal Marriage – analysis, and some special mentions

It was good to see the vast majority of Labour MPs voting for marriage equality yesterday, although here are some special mentions –

Iain McKenzie, Frank Roy & Mike Wood – voted FOR after voting against in the 2nd reading

Anne Begg, Gordon Brown, Bill Esterson, Pat Glass, Michael Meacher, Ian Mearns, Yasmin Qureshi, Virenda Sharma, Shaun Woodward – these MPs didn’t vote in the 2nd reading, but all voted FOR this evening (not all abstentions, a number were unable to attend the 2nd reading vote)

In less good news, there were 14 Labour MPs who voted against Equal Marriage:

Joe Benton (Bootle), Tom Clarke (Coatbridge, Chryston & Bellshill), Rosie Cooper (Lancashire West), David Crausby (Bolton North East), Jim Dobbin (Heywood & Middleton), Brian Donohoe (Ayrshire Central), Robert Flello (Stoke-on-Trent South), Mary Glindon (Tyneside North), Roger Godsiff (Birmingham Hall Green), Paul Goggins (Wythenshawe & Sale East),George Mudie (Leeds East), Paul Murphy (Torfaen), Stephen Pound (Ealing North), Stephen Timms (East Ham).

The majority of these voted against on the 2nd reading as well, but Roger Godsiff and Stephen Timms didn’t vote previously, yet voted against this time.

7 of those who voted against on the 2nd reading, didn’t vote at all this time – Ronnie Campbell(Blyth Valley), Tony Cunningham (Workington), Dai Havard (Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney),Michael McCann (East Kilbride, Strathaven & Lesmahagow), Jim McGovern (Dundee West), Jim Sheridan (Paisley & Renfrewshire North), Derek Twigg (Halton)
