As we wrote yesterday, the Tories seem to have given up on Parliament. Both Chris Grayling in the Commons and Lord Deighton in the Lords failed to turn up to answer for their departments in key debates.
Labour Peer Lord Adonis was hoping to quiz Infrastructure Minister Lord Deighton about – well – infrastructure. In his disappointment, he has written to the Leader of the House of Lords.
In the letter, Adonis describes attending such debates as:
“a basic matter of parliamentary duty”
and goes on to add:
“the House obviously cannot do its work if ministers refuse to attend it and, as Leader of the House, I would hope that you set clear expectations of your colleagues in these regards”.
We hope so too. We will keep you updated if we hear of any response.
