A brilliant example of the government’s abject failure on energy prices

Since Ed Miliband’s Energy Price Freeze pledge much attention has been put on the failure of the government to do much on energy prices. Except that’s not really fair – they did do something two years ago, but it’s been an abject failure.

Back in 2011, the government announced the “Green Deal”. It was described by the government as their “flagship energy saving plan to transform the country’s homes to make them warmer and cheaper to run”. And Climate Change Minister Greg Barker described it thus:

“The Green Deal will be the biggest home improvement programme since the Second World War shifting our outdated draughty homes from the past into the future.”

So how many homes have been improved to cut costs and save energy in this epic home improvement programme?

219.

There have been a staggering 101,851 assessments made of homes across the UK – but only 219 have had any installation work done.

The government claim they’re serious about cutting energy bills. Yeah right – we’ve heard it before, and it was nonsense…
