Quite a remarkable revaluation this evening that Michael Green Grant Shapps has been ‘cleared’ by the Met over his internet business venture – but not before, as Michael Crick reports:
“lawyers who advised the police concluded that the selling of the software may be ”an offence of fraud” and perhaps other offences.”
Labour have gone on the offensive tonight, with Jon Ashworth MP asking Cameron is Shapps is a suitable person to be a senior Tory MP:
“It is an extraordinary revelation that the Chairman of the Conservative Party was linked to business activities that “may constitute an offence of fraud”. We need a full explanation from the police about why they have not decided to prosecute. We need a full explanation from David Cameron as to why he thinks Grant Shapps is a suitable person to hold such a senior position in the Conservative Party.”
With all Westminster eyes on a particular court room at the moment, the words “fraud” and “senior Tory MP” are probably the last things that Cameron wants to see together…
