Remember when Cameron attacked Labour for suggesting OAP benefits might go?

David Cameron has been flip-flopping horribly over the past 24 hours, after he refused to confirm that OAP benefits would remain untouched. The Daily Mail in particular have gone for the PM this morning.

Yet back in the April 22nd 2010 TV debate, Cameron snapped at Gordon Brown, saying:

“We will keep the free television licence, we will keep the pension credit, we’ll keep the winter fuel allowance, we’ll keep the free bus pass. Those leaflets you have been getting from Labour, the letters you have been getting from Labour are pure and simple lies.”

Tory HQ were so upset at the attack, they produced a dossier of Labour leaflets and sent them to the press. Yet now Cameron is being much vaguer. Spokespeople for the PM are now only saying that he’s “minded” to repeat the pledge – the old, pre-election certainty is gone…
