Lord Ashcroft has published a poll a week ahead of the Wythenshawe and Sale East by-election (called after the passing of Paul Goggins MP) – and it suggests a comfortable win for Labour. Here’s how the Tory peer’s polling for the constituency looks:

So while it may be a two horse race, it looks like it’ll be between UKIP and the Tories for second place (UKIP currently lead 16% to 15% – with Labour on 61%). No-one should be complacent, but if Labour’s Mike Kane isn’t an MP by next Friday, a political earthquake will have hit the North West…
