The absence of Arnie Graf – Ed Miliband’s “community organising guru” – has been notable in recent months, since reports (rumoured to have been triggered by an internal leak) about his immigration status emerged. Senior Labour staffers have said on a number of occasions that Graf would be back imminently – and although he wasn’t involved in the difficult Local and European election campaigns, he’s now back in the UK for the week.
A Labour spokesperson told us this afternoon:
“Arnie Graf has arrived back in the UK on a long-planned visit to attend a series of meetings with Ed Miliband and Douglas Alexander, as well as meeting organisers and activists across the country.”
Whilst it’s good to see Graf back in the UK and meeting with people from all levels of the Labour Party, what’s really needed is him doing what he does best – organising in communities.
As he’s only in the UK for a week this time, it’s unlikely he’s going to be doing much of that. Lets hope that the next time he’s in the UK (which needs to be soon), he’s here for longer and spending his time working in target seats, ensuring there are more people on the ground fighting for a Labour victory in 2015.
Then we’ll really be able to say “welcome back Arnie”.
