Earlier this week, MPs voted through emergency legislation on new surveillance measures. Due to the nature of the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers (DRIP) Bill, the vote was rushed through with little debate, and was supported by the frontbenches of all three major parties. The rush to push a vote through has left many uncomfortable with how little they know about the bill: on Tuesday, Sunny Hundal wrote that the matter had left Ed Miliband’s credentials on matters of civil liberty in tatters.
In our Weekly Survey, we asked LabourList readers how they felt about the new legislation. Over 52% of you said that you opposed DRIP:
The level of opposition may well be an indication that people are wary of knowing so little about it, especially as one in four respondents said that they do not know enough about it to form an opinion either way. 22% said they supported the idea.
We also asked what are readers felt about specific Shadow Cabinet members. Results of that question will be published tomorrow.
784 people voted in this week’s survey. Thanks to everyone who took part.
