Tory grassroots demand Cameron ditches “leftie nonsense” to win election

Conservative Party members think that for David Cameron to win the next election, he needs to ditch the, er, “leftie nonsense”.

ComRes poll of party activists (£) found high levels of support for re-introducing control orders for terrorist suspects and the abolition of the Human Rights Act, while plain packaging for cigarettes and health warnings on alcohol found little support.

Chairman of the Grassroots Conservative organisation Robert Woollard reacted to the survey by saying:

“Mr Cameron should ditch the so-called progressive leftie nonsense that those around him think will win votes and focus on traditional Conservative values and policies.”

The alarming revelation that Cameron is a progressive leftie is news to us – although I’m not completely convinced that the Tories are heading for defeat because of their dangerous socialist agenda. And in any case, I suspect they only toyed with the idea of plain fag packets so they would have more room to map out their economic policies on the back.

Nevertheless, LabourList welcomes Mr Woollard’s intervention and hopes to hear more from him in the coming months.
