Is David Miliband advising Clinton on presidential bid?

David Miliband may have made a secret return to politics – by advising Hillary Clinton on her bid to become President in 2016. A source has told the Daily Mirror that Miliband and Clinton speak on a “regular basis” and he offers “strategic support” to former US Secretary of State.

Miliband has been out of politics since standing down as an MP in April last year and moving to New York to head up the humanitarian charity the IRC. It is not the first time that a move into American politics has been rumoured for the former Foreign Secretary: back in August it was suggested that Clinton would want to give Miliband a formal government role if she were to win the 2016 election.

However, only last week he refused to rule out a return to British politics in the future, saying: “You just don’t know, do you?” This follows further summer rumours that Ed Miliband could potentially offer his brother a job following a Labour victory next May.

David Miliband and Hillary Clinton have been close since striking a friendship when the two took on their respective government’s foreign affairs roles. In her autobiography published earlier this year, Clinton said of Miliband:

“He was young, energetic, smart, creative, and attractive, with a ready smile. We found our views on how the world was changing remarkably similar.”

:In addition to becoming good professional colleagues, we developed a genuine friendship.”

While it seems unlikely that a move back into politics is imminent, David Miliband could have some big decisions to make in the coming years.
