Earlier this week, Nigel Farage said that we’re “going to have to return to” the debate about whether to move away from publicly funded healthcare to an insurance-based system – despite the UKIP health spokesperson saying they “will always favour a state funded NHS”.
Now, to add to the confusion, the Head of Media for Nigel Farage and UKIP Alexandra Phillips has weighed in, describing the the debate round privatising the NHS as a “taboo potato”.
During BBC Question Time last night, the UKIP spinner tweeted that it was “taboo” to “admit the NHS in its current form simply can’t go on”.
It seems clear that splits are opening up within UKIP about what to do with our NHS, and it’s impossible to get a single position from the people at the top of the party. It’s time they started to be clear about this: do they want to keep it free or get rid of it?
This is not the first time that Phillips has put her foot in it. Hope Not Hate have previously reported on her offensive Facebook rants.
