
Kate Osamor has been selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Edmonton. Osamor is a GP in practice manager and is a constituency member of Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
108 people put themselves for selection, and the Constituency Labour Party (CLP) members today voted on a shortlist of three. There had been calls from BAME Labour to make this an all-BAME shortlist, and although this was not officially implemented, all three candidates were women coming from black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds.
The seat has been Labour since 1997, and retiring MP Andy Love leaves behind a majority of 9,613.
Edmonton was in the news last week when David Burrowes, a Tory MP in the neighbouring seat, was discovered to have accidentally been out canvassing in the constituency, believing it was his own.
