Jim Murphy will take on the SNP’s Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Conservatives’ Ruth Davidson and the Scottish Lib Dems’ Willie Rennie in a four-way televised leaders’ debate before the election. The debate will take place on the 7th of April at 8pm, and be aired on STV.
It is the only debate that has so far been confirmed, with David Cameron dragging his feet over UK-wide debates. The Tory leader will now come under greater pressure to take part in debates, with his Scottish counterpart Davidson agreeing to appear with apparently little fuss. The debate will take place during the short campaign period of the election, which Cameron says is too late for debates to happen.

STV hosted a debate between Alistair Darling and Alex Salmond during the Scottish referendum last year that was made available online for viewers across the UK. This debate will also be streamed online, but as yet there is no word on whether those outside Scotland will be able to watch it. It will be hosted by STV’s Political Editor, Bernard Ponsonby.
