Who will be Labour’s candidate for London Mayor in 2016? The race doesn’t officially begin until after the General Election, but already the field of candidates looks pretty established.
Former Labour Mayor Ken Livingstone – who knows more than a little about Labour’s Mayoral selections, albeit under the old selection rules rather than the “primary” that will take place this time around – thinks he knows who will win. Politics.co.uk report him as saying:
“My guess would be Sadiq Khan [will win] if he wants to go for it.”
Yet there’s a catch – Livingstone doesn’t seem entirely certain that Khan (who is currently the Shadow Justice Secretary, and the only Shadow Cabinet member believed to be planning a Mayoral bid) will run. Livingstone says that he thinks Khan will win the selection “If he’s not in the cabinet”.
Livingstone’s prediction comes as something of a surprise, as Tessa Jowell has so far been the clear frontrunner in recent polls and surveys on the Labour Mayoral race.
