Miliband suggests he’d rather not be in government than do a “deal” or “coalition” with the SNP

During tonight’s question time debate, Miliband was faced with a number of questions about Labour potentially doing a deal with the SNP.

Now, we’ve heard him say time and again that he won’t go into coalition with the nationalists. But tonight he went one step further. He suggested he’d rather not be in government than do go into coalition with or do a deal with the SNP.

He reiterated his stance on this on Twitter after the debate:

This all seems to suggest if Labour are the biggest party, but don’t win a majority, Miliband would rather opt for a minority government…

UPDATE: We’ve got the video of the clip, and reaction from Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy below:

“It’s now up to the SNP to be clear – will they oppose Labour’s radical plan to make life fairer for working class Scots and would they be prepared to prevent, or bring down, a Labour Government?

“It’s clear beyond all doubt – the only way to get a Labour Government is to vote Labour. The choice facing Scots is a Labour Government taking Scotland on the road to a fairer nation, or the SNP’s road to another referendum.”
