Ed Miliband today said a Labour Government would bring about an end to unpaid internships, as he launched the party’s manifesto for young people in Lincoln. The Labour leader revisited his idea of the Promise of Britain:
“Over the last five years I’ve been talking about what I call the Promise of Britain. The Promise of Britain, to me, says the next generation should do better than the last. I actually think it’s the way you judge the progress and future of a country.
“It’s the promise this country was built on, and my generation grew up confident that that promise would be fulfilled. But it’s a promise that for your generation has been broken.
“With this Government, it is young people, more than any other group, that has paid the price of hard times. A future of increasing debt, of insecure work, and where a home of your own is too often a distant dream.”
