There’s only a week to go to register to vote, make sure your family isn’t left out of deciding Britain’s future

At midnight on Monday, the General Election could be over for hundreds of thousands of people. The electoral register will be closed, and if you’re not on the list, you won’t decide who gets in.

With the Coalition’s changes to the electoral registration system, thousands and thousands of people could lose their right to vote.

So this week, make sure your family isn’t left out of deciding Britain’s future. Especially if someone in your family has moved house in the last year, or is a student, or lives in a shared house, ask them to make sure they’re registered to vote.

All it takes is a little reminder. So if you’re having a conversation at work or on Facebook this week, send them the link to get on the register https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote so they can send a message of their own in May.

It’ll only take five minutes and all they need is their name, address, and National Insurance number. They should have got their NI number at sixteen, but if they’ve lost or forgotten it, then get them to call 0300 200 3502 to find it.

It’s not difficult to do. Since I started my voter registration campaign in the New Year, hundreds of people have registered to vote by getting online this way. Let’s make it thousands.

There’s only a week to go to register to vote. So this week, send someone in your family a little message, so they can send the whole country a big message.
