Labour on the Conservatives remain in a dead heat, according to a new poll. The latest polling from ComRes for the Sunday Mirror and Independent on Sunday shows that it is still all to play for in the last few days of the campaign.
The poll shows:
Con 33% (-2), Lab 33% (-2), Lib Dem 8% (+1), UKIP 13% (+2), Green 7% (+1), Others 6% (NC)
Over the past week, roughly the same number of polls have shown Labour ahead as the Tories, while this is the third that shows a tie between the two. Nearly every poll currently shows both parties between 33% and 35% – a polling average for the last week sees both Tories and Labour on 34%.
47% say they currently feel negative about the future, compared to 33% who feel positive. Part of this may be attributed to the negative aspects of the parties’ campaign: while Labour warn about Tory handling of the NHS, the Tories have been going hard on “Labour/SNP chaos”.
While Miliband’s personal ratings have improved recently, Cameron still beats him on leadership. 63% think Cameron is a “capable leader”, while only 38% say the same for Miliband. Young people may be more likely to say that Miliband is a capable leader than older people, but Cameron still holds a lead in every age group. But more people think Miliband understands the problems facing the country (51% to 48%) and fewer think he is “too pleased with himself” (45% to 56%) or “heartless” (14% to 32%).
UPDATE: Tonight’s Opinium gives the Tories a lead of one.
Conservatives 35, Labour 34, Lib DemD 8, UKIP 13%, Green 5%
UPDATE: Whilst Survation for the Mail on Sunday gives Labour a three point lead:
LAB 34%; CON 31%; UKIP 17%; LDEM 8%; SNP 5%; GRNS 4%
UPDATE: Yougov has a one point Tory lead
CON 34% (+2) LAB 33% (-1) UKIP 13% (-1) LDEM 8% (-11) GRN 5% (-1)
There’s also a YouGov Scotland poll with the SNP on 49% and Labour on 26%…
