It’s reported that Ben Bradshaw is preparing his bid to stand as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.
Bradshaw, former Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, is also the MP for Exeter. Although he has yet to announce that he will stand for the position, the Mail have reported that his aides have registered the following websites :www.ben4deputy.co.uk and www.ben4labour.co.uk.
A source close to Bradshaw has reportedly said:
‘We lost badly in parts of England and Wales that we shouldn’t. We failed to take seats we have to win to form a government.’
‘Ed and his team bet on the British people moving to the left in response to the global financial crisis.
‘The whole of our strategy was based on this. But it was not true.
‘There was never any evidence either here or abroad that it would be.’
No candidate has yet officially confirmed they will be standing to be deputy leader. However, if these reports are true, Bradshaw could be throwing his name in to the hat with Stella Creasy, who last night said she wouldn’t rule out standing for the position, and Tom Watson, who has created a crowdfunding page to fund his bid.
Other names who may appear on the list include Angela Eagle and Caroline Flint.
