The majority of LabourList readers back the party’s new position on supporting EU referendum, and three-quarters say they will definitely vote to stay in the European Union.
70% of those who took part in LabourList’s weekly survey said they believe it is now right for Labour to back an EU referendum, having previously opposed the policy. A sizeable proportion, 24%, remain opposed to the idea of Labour supporting a referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU.
Eight out of ten readers have already decided how they will vote in a referendum: 75% say they will “definitely” vote to stay in, while 5% say they are definitely outers. A further 5% will “probably” vote to leave the EU, while 12% are probably going to support an in vote.
Labour are pushing for 16 and 17 year olds to be allowed to vote in the referendum, as they were in last year’s referendum on Scottish independence. It is Labour’s current official party policy to reduce the voting age to 16 in all elections – and 75% of readers agree with it, making it more popular than supporting a referendum. 21% think the voting age should not be reduced.
1,336 participated in this week’s LabourList survey. Thank you to all who took part.
