Both Constituency Labour Party (CLP) and trade union sections have voted to debate Trident renewal in today’s priority ballot. The issue, which UK Labour conference delegates voted against debating, will now be discussed on Sunday.
As well as Trident, the Trade Union Bill, TTIP and housing will also be debated.
The Guardian this morning reported that Jeremy Corbyn was in favour of Trident being debated. The Labour leader is a long-time supporter of scrapping the defence system, as his Shadow Scotland Secretary Ian Murray. However, it’s understood that Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale, as well as the majority of Labour MPs, are in favour of renewing it.
