Sadiq Khan slams Donald Trump: He doesn’t have a clue

Labour’s London Mayor candidate Sadiq Khan has hit out at controversial US presidential hopeful Donald Trump today, saying the Republican “doesn’t have a clue”.

Khan slammed the intriguingly hirsute anti-Muslim billionaire after he said that parts of London were so “radicalised” that police officers were afraid to go there. He made the comments in a defence of earlier remarks where he came out in support of banning Muslims entering America.

Trump said that there are areas of “London and other places that are so radicalised that the police are afraid for their own lives.”

Khan responded by saying that Trump was “clearly ignorant”, that his ideas were “dangerous”, and that his campaign deserves to fail. He said:

“Donald Trump doesn’t have a clue about London. He is clearly ignorant about London’s tolerance and diversity and also about how unified we are as a city.

“More importantly he should apologise for pretending to speak on behalf of our police, who do such an incredible job keeping our city safe.

“Trump can’t just be dismissed as a buffoon – his comments are outrageous, divisive and dangerous – I condemn them utterly them and hope his campaign dies a death.”

Sadiq was joined in his condemnation by none other than the Metropolitan Police, who seemed to echo Khan’s jibe about Trump’s ignorance, offering him a personal briefing on “the reality of policing London.” They issued a statement saying:

“We would not normally dignify such comments with a response, however on this occasion we think it’s important to state to Londoners that Mr Trump could not be more wrong.

“Any candidate for the presidential election in the United States of America is welcome to receive a briefing from the Met Police on the reality of policing London.”
