Two-thirds of LabourList readers will campaign with the Labour Party’s official pro-EU group for a Remain vote in the referendum
61% of those who took part in our survey this week said they will play an active campaigning role in favour of the EU when the time comes. 21% said they would not campaign for a Remain vote, while 18% do not know.
This week the official pro-EU campaign of the party, Labour In For Britain, launched with Alan Johnson leading the group. Johnson said he plans to run a distinct campaign that focuses on jobs, workers’ rights, and national security.
213 Labour MPs have signed up to the campaign, including Jeremy Corbyn and the whole Shadow Cabinet, meaning that only 18 MPs have not signed up – not including new addition Jim McMahon.
It was unclear early on in Corbyn’s leadership whether he would back staying in the EU, but this campaign has been officially sanctioned and will work with the leadership. Given the results here, it would seem that Corbyn is in step with the LabourList readership in backing a Remain vote.
1,625 people voted in this week’s survey. Thanks to everyone who took part.
