David Cameron’s personal ratings are tanking amid uncomfortable questions over his personal finances – and he is now losing out to Jeremy Corbyn for the first time.
To make things worse for him, the new depth for the Tory leader’s nosediving popularity came before last night’s embarrassing admission that he benefited from his father’s offshore trust.
Corbyn and John McDonnell are also both more trusted to deal with tax avoidance than Cameron, George Osborne or Boris Johnson, according to the survey.
The new research from YouGov will come as a huge blow to Cameron, who sees his support among Conservative voters crumbling amid the Tory civil war over Europe. His ratings, at -24, are now the lowest they have been since July 2013. Corbyn’s ratings have been rising since January, although they too stand at a less-than-enviable -22.
The Prime Minister faces another tough weekend as he faces further questions over the Panama Papers scandal, and his falling approval ratings are only expected to get worse. His popularity has been sliding since it stood at -6 back in November,
Just over a third, 34 per cent, think Cameron is doing a good job as Prime Minister, compared to 58 per cent who think he is doing badly. Some 30 per cent of voters think Corbyn is doing well as Labour leader, while 52 per cent disagree – but among those who voted Labour last year, his approval ratings rise to +22.
