Jeremy Corbyn has joined Dr Rosena Allin-Khan on the campaign trail in the run-up to tomorrow’s by-election.
The Labour leader led efforts to secure a victory in the seat, joining dozens of volunteers who have tried to get out the vote in the seat resigned by Sadiq Khan after his London mayoral victory last month.
Allin-Khan has shown her appreciation for the efforts of Labour MPs saying “lots and lots” had come to canvass in the area. Corbyn first campaigned in the by-election on the day Allin-Khan was selected, and has been followed by many other shadow cabinet members including shadow Chancellor John McDonnell.
Labour won the seat in 2015 with a 2,800 vote majority, having held the seat from 1997. Local campaigners are optimistic, but acknowledge the challenges of confusion with the EU vote as well as the traditionally lower turnouts seen in by-elections.
Polls open at 7am tomorrow with a result expected early Friday morning.
