We are looking for someone to join our small team. LabourList is hiring an operations and fundraising officer; the role is an exciting opportunity for someone who shares our values to join at a time when LabourList is expanding and looking to give our readers more of what we do best.

Principal duties

LabourList at Labour Party Conference

  • Assist with the delivery and planning of LabourList events at the annual Labour Party conference 2022 under the direction of the editor.
  • Liaise effectively with partners, potential speakers and venue staff.
  • During conference, deliver individual events with responsibility for the smooth running of the event and liaison with colleagues, speakers and sponsors.

LabourList events

  • Assist with planning a programme of LabourList events under the direction of the editor, including liaising with potential partners and speakers.
  • Take responsibility for planning and delivering the regular LabourList events, including progress tracking and meeting deadlines.


  • Taking responsibility for planning and implementing a small donor fundraising campaign, under the direction of the editor, utilising social media, email and other marketing copy and tools.
  • Identifying and taking advantage of new revenue streams for LabourList – including leveraging the LabourList events programme and podcast.
  • Taking responsibility for driving the delivery of the fundraising strategy implementation including by setting meetings for the editor and board members, arranging calls, drafting email copy and tracking progress.
  • Selling advertising – looking for opportunities to sell advertising to organisations in-line with the LabourList brand and approaching those organisations with proposals, under the direction of the editor.

Operations and finance

  • Finance administration, including taking responsibility for:
    • Keeping the LabourList budget up to date;
    • Invoicing and making payments;
    • Making payroll and HMRC payments;
    • Dealing with the accountants;
    • Administrating applications for expenses; and
    • Assisting the editor as required.
  • Human resources admin – supporting the editor with HR duties.
  • Governance and board – supporting the editor by:
    • Taking responsibility for maintaining a risk register (tracking risks including those relating to defamation and data protection);
    • Administering and maintaining declaration of interest forms;
    • Taking responsibility for record keeping and organisation of documents; and
    • Recording minutes and ensuring they are circulated to participants and following up to ensure minutes are actioned.

Other responsibilities

  • Supporting the editor in delivering a new LabourList podcast, including by:
    • Planning content;
    • Liaising with potential speakers; and
    • Promoting programmes using LabourList social media.

This role would best suit someone who…

  • Is highly organised and who has a keen attention to detail, good time management skills and the ability to plan, prepare and deliver to deadlines.
  • Is a good communicator who can write well and has strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Is a fast learner.
  • Has relevant experience in events management, communications, politics, public affairs or similar.
  • Has relevant experience in fundraising.
  • Has experience of successfully delivering events including planning, preparation and event marketing.
  • Is available to work in Liverpool, including at the weekend and during the evening, during the Labour Party annual conference (24th to 28th September 2022).
