What is Friends of LabourList?
Friends of LabourList is our new community. For £4.99 a month, readers can directly support independent Labour journalism and help secure the future of LabourList.
It’s a way to back the reporting, analysis and debate you value – while keeping most of our content free and open to all.
How do I sign up?
Click the “Become a Friend” button and follow the simple sign-up process. It takes less than a minute.
Why are you introducing subscriptions now?
Quality political journalism costs money.
LabourList has always aimed to provide independent reporting on the Labour Party, trade unions and the wider movement. As Labour enters a new phase in government, scrutiny, transparency and informed debate matter more than ever.
Friends of LabourList gives readers the chance to help fund that work sustainably and independently.
Is LabourList becoming paywalled?
No.
We are not putting LabourList behind a paywall. The vast majority of our journalism will remain free to read.
Friends of LabourList is about voluntary support – not restricting access.
How much does it cost?
Membership costs £4.99 per month, or £49.99 for an annual subscription.
There is no long-term contract, and you can cancel at any time.
Can I cancel whenever I want?
Yes.
You can cancel your subscription at any time by logging into DonorBox to access your account. The easiest way to do this is by logging in with a one-time code. Your membership will continue until the end of your current billing period.
Or get in touch with your Friends at LabourList at [email protected].
How do I update my details?
You can update your personal details – name, home address and email – you can do so here.
If you experience any issues, contact us at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to assist.
Where does the money go?
Your subscription directly supports:
- Paying our journalists and contributors fairly
- Funding original reporting
- Covering Labour conference and major political events
- Maintaining and improving the website, newsletter and social media output
- Expanding our journalism
Does becoming a Friend influence your editorial line?
No.
Supporting LabourList does not buy influence over editorial decisions. Our journalism remains independent, and we will continue to scrutinise all parts of the Labour movement fairly.
Friends help sustain our work – they do not direct it.
Is this a donation?
It’s a subscription to a supporter community rather than a charitable donation. Your monthly payment supports our journalism and gives you access to additional benefits.
I can’t afford £4.99 a month – what can I do?
We understand that not everyone can contribute financially.
You can still support LabourList by:
- Sharing our articles
- Submitting pieces for publication
- Encouraging others to become Friends
- Signing up to our free newsletter
Our aim is to keep LabourList open and accessible to everyone.
How do I receive my free mug?
All new Friends of LabourList are eligible to receive a complimentary Friends of LabourList mug.
After signing up, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to confirm your delivery address. Once confirmed, your mug will be dispatched.
Please ensure your postal details are up to date in your account to avoid delays.
If you haven’t received your mug within the expected timeframe, contact us at [email protected] and we’ll look into it.
