Rumours are circulating that Gordon Brown will not only take up Sky News’ challenge to debate the other main party leaders during the next general election – but that he will go further and propose up to three debates throughout the campaign.
In a letter to Sky News, the PM has said:
“I have always been prepared to debate with people about any important issues we face. Of course there will come a time to focus on the general election and I will consider yours and other proposals at the right time.”
Meanwhile, Douglas Alexander and Andy Burnham have both said Brown has “nothing to fear” in debating Cameron and Clegg on prime time – echoing Peter Mandelson’s earlier words.
