Barry Gardiner appointed Shadow Natural Environment and Fisheries Minister

3rd July, 2013 5:19 pm

A few weeks ago Tom Harris stepped down from the Shadow DEFRA team, saying:

“I know where my priorities lie; the task of juggling front bench responsibilities and being a husband and father to a young family located 400 miles away is simply beyond me.”

Today the party have confirmed that Brent North MP Barry Gardiner has been appointed to replace Harris as Labour’s Shadow Natural Environment and Fisheries Minister.

Ed Miliband rattles Boris Johnson on the Marr sofa

Ed Miliband gave what I thought was his best and clearest Marr interview this morning – including stating in the clearest terms yet that there won’t be a Labour/SNP deal after the election. He was also far more assertive and confident than he’s been in previous encounters. But by far the best session of the Marr show – and perhaps the best clash of the election so far – was Ed Miliband taking on a clearly rattled Boris Johnson afterwards and […]

Labour plans to cap rents to give “Generation Rent” a more secure future

Ed Miliband has announced plans to cap private sector rents as part of a package of plans to help those living in the expanding private rented sector. The plans are pretty similar to those unveiled before last year’s European and Local elections (which I praised at the time). They’re also similar to the rent pledges pushed by Shadow Housing Minister Emma Reynolds back in February (which may suggest that the media gives a disproportionate amount of coverage to policies announced by party […]
