Weekly survey: English Labour party, London Mayor and the Snooper’s Charter

have your say ll (long)

Last week, Jon Cruddas let it slip that he and a group of Labour MPs were planning on setting up an English Labour party. However, Labour party officials told LabourList that this had no formal backing, so it looks like Cruddas and co. are trying to convince the party to establish an English Labour party, equivalent to the Scottish and Welsh Labour parties.

What do you think? Do you think there should be an English Labour party? Or are you against the idea?

The Labour leadership race isn’t the only contest going on at the moment, in London there are six people battling it out to be Labour’s candidate for Mayor. Who would you like to see standing to be Labour mayor in May 2016? Have your say here.

Hilary Benn, shadow foreign secretary, has said there needs to be a “grown up” debate about security services’ powers. His comments suggest senior Labour figures might be thinking about supporting the government’s Communications Data Bill (also knows as the Snooper’s Charter), which would require mobile and internet companies to store information about phone calls, e-mails and internet searches made by UK nationals.

However, some in the Labour party and Labour-affiliated union, Unite, are opposed the bill. What do you think? Should Labour support the Snooper’s Charter? Or should they oppose it?

Along with our regular survey we would also like your help with a weekly Q&A for the leadership candidates. Throughout the election we would like to put your questions to them about the big issues facing Britain: education, health, welfare, immigration, taxation, housing, Scotland and devolution, and Europe and the world.

This week were are covering health and would like you to submit your questions here or via Twitter using the hashtag #LabourListQ&A. Even if your question doesn’t fit into any of our categories we would still like to hear from you.

Our weekly survey closes at 12 on Thursday. You can vote here.
