Read our guest Rick Muir’s post Will constitutional reform restore our broken trust?
After a suggestion from a reader and because the time is right for profound and sweeping changes in the way our democracy operates, this Wednesday between 12pm and 1.30pm, LabourList will be hosting a special live chat on constitutional reform.
Our guest for the chat will be Rick Muir of the Institute for Public Policy Research, Britain’s leading progressive think tank. Rick is a Senior Research Fellow for IPPR, and specialises in Democracy and Citizenship.
Although we’ll be discussing a host of specific topics, the following is a list of the broader themes we’ll be touching on:
– MPs’ pay and second home allowances
– Selection and election processes
– Proportional Representation
– The opportunity for an elected second chamber
– The role and jurisdiction of Parliament and the Monarchy
– Voter registration
The format will be the same as our PMQs live chat. Effectively it’s an instant messenger broadcast that anyone can contribute to at any time. If you’re not familar with how it works, you can click here to view last week’s. You don’t have to sign up or log in to participate, just join us at 12pm on Wednesday!
Do begin suggesting questions below so we have some good ones to begin with come Wednesday!
