There’s a YouGov poll in this morning’s Telegraph which has Labour gaining three points on the Conservatives. It’s a small change, but Mike Smithson of Political Betting says “Labour will be pleased to have clawed back the deficit to what appears a modest 13 points”.
The ful topline results are:
Conservatives: 38% (-2)
Labour: 25% (+1)
Lib Dems: 18% (nc)
There is little reassuring news in the answers to the the other poll questions, though. In response to the question “who would be the best Prime Minister?” David Cameron leads Gordon Brown 35% to 18%.
Meanwhile, to cope with the recession, 31% of those who responded said they wanted to reduce spending, with only 12% prefering higher taxes and 48% a mixture of the two, showing the vulnerability in the “Labour investment vs Tory cuts” line.
