Two nights ago, Alex Smith fretted that John Bercow would be an “average Speaker for an average House” and that his election would “do little to reassure the country that our politics and our democracy are alive”. It seems he was right insofar as he is unwilling to take questions from reporters without being obxoxiously rude and presumptuous.
