PMQs Open Thread, 3rd June

From @LabourList

GB: The Tories are the only party to go into the election tomorrow without policy on economy.

GB: We need agreement on targets for carbon reduction. Need China and Japan to agree. Need to provide finance to those countries in need to support changes. This can not happen without cooperation across Europe. Need environmental policy.

GB: One of issues repeatedly comes up is second jobs of members of House. The Tory frontbench is protesting. Methinks they protest to much.

Palmer: Will the PM take action to curb dependence of many members on second incomes. Front bench of Tories has 52 extra areas of incom – shouldn’t they concentrate on job elected to do?

GB: W’ve taken millions out of poverty, children and pensioners, set new targets. Child benefit raised, introduced tax credits etc.

John Mason: Is the PM embarrassed this country is most unequal since 70s?

GB: He has applied for free pardon in terms of High Court judgement. we are determined to make fairest decision. Can only do so when looked at all evidence.

Louise Ellman: When will decision be taken to grant pardon to Michael Shields?

GB: Many people are claiming on moritorium on mortgages, shared equity scheme and measures taken to deal with the way banks approach mortgages in the first place. Trying to help those people. No Govt has done more.

GB: PM: Want to pay tribute to veterans of Royal British Legion. Pensions Minister visit this afternoon. Pensions credit in new form where seen as a rebate and that will be discussed this afternoon.

Clown alert! and all Labour frontbench chuckling: Sir Peter Tapsell: Problem of members allowances falls within remit of Sir Christopher Kelly’s committee and should be left there. PM wishes to gain reputation as constitutionalist may I suggest as he is almost uniquely unsuited to play role of latter day Thomas Jefferson he should look to existing constitution and use that to dissolve Parliament to get a new Govt?

GB you don’t need to look into a Crystal Ball to see what the Conservatives would do. They are cutting housing in their constituencies already.

NC: PM just doesn’t get it. The cabinet crippled with in-fighting. The country has a void not a Government. Labour is finished. Isn’t obvious only choice now between Tories and Lib Dems.

GB: Problem is when you don’t deal with issues. Thought Liberals would have joined us in helping unemployed etc.

Nick Clegg: The government is in total meltdown. People feel that there is no one in charge.

GB: This is what people in the country are concerned about, hjobs in car industry. Working with GM, and preferred buyer for GM. Introduced scrappage scheme. Doing whatever can to move forward. Not possible without public funds.

GB: I said Chancellor is doing a great job. This is only party that wants election with no policies. Talk, talk and talk, but nothing to do with action.

Call and response from Gordon Brown with his MPs responding with “nothing!” to the questions on what the Tories would do to help the economy.

GB: Yet again, not one question on policy!

DC: Can the PM tell us if the Chancellor still be in post in a week?

GB: We have two jobs to do: Clean up the system and take the country through the recession. But this has been yet another week with not one question on policy.

DC: The Prime Minister talks about pressures, those pressures on cabinet include No 10 briefing directly against him. Can the PM guarantee no further resognations ahead of reshuffle?

Speaker is calling order as people continue to shout.

GB: Take a step back and understand what’s happening. Past few weeks difficult for every member of this House. Family pressures for all.

DC: PM in denial. Hazel Blears; statement doesn’t pay tribute to PM or his policies. Resigning day before local elections. Direct challenge to his authority?

GB: Crime has come down, better relationships between police and community. Comnvervative government doubled crime.

DC sombre: Why doesn’t PM accept ability to command cabinet disappeared?

David Cameron: Join PM in sending condolences to family of Edwin Dyer. Thinking about them. The PM is right: we must never give in to terrrorism.

GB: Need European cooperation. We will work with all countries in Europe.

Dr Howard Stoate: We need clean energy for Europe.

GB: There is work to be done with the problems people face.

Michael Wear: Pathetic sight of cabinet reshuffling self. When will PM resign?

GB: There will be no safe haven for terrorists.
