As Labour supporters attend John Prescott’s Tweet4Victory event tonight, social media guru Josh Feldberg has been doing some analysis of the reach of Twitter in expanding a website’s reach and influence.
Twitter is now consitently in the top ten drivers of traffic to LabourList, and while it is often over-emphasised as a means of connecting with voters, there’s no doubt that it’s playing an increasingly prominent role in Labour’s online presence and output. As well as tonight’s event, Fishburn Hedges are hosting Twinge events at the Labour and Tory conferences and Edelman are hosting a similar event soon.
Josh’s analysis shows that @BevaniteEllie is @LabourList‘s sinlge most influential follower. The diagram here links @LabourList‘s tweets to those blue dots (clockwise from nine o’clock) of: @BevaniteEllie, @CoopParty, @Emma_Hoddinott and @PSBook, our most influential followers in September.
Josh says:
“@BevaniteEllie has over a thousand followers who do not follow @LabourList – more than anyone else who regularly mentions @LabourList in their tweets. If @LabourList wanted to increase its following and hence its readership, they could use this diagram, or rather the data used to create it, to reach out to the most influential followers.”
I’ll hoepfully be at Prescott’s Tweet for Victory event tonight – follow @LabourList on Twitter and see what he has to say about all this!
