#MobMonday develops a life of its own

Kerry MobMondayBy Grace Fletcher-Hackwood and Kevin Peel

Our second #mobmonday this week for @stellacreasy in Walthamstow built on the success of the first, with more than 350 calls made by a dozen activists across the country.

However what we also noticed as people were Twittering away is that people have now developed their own local #mobmonday campaigns, with @SadiqKhan and other activists calling residents in his constituency of Tooting (we’ll be getting to you in a couple of weeks, Sadiq!), meaning many more activists and many more calls are being made than those we’re monitoring.

This is absolutely fantastic and shows why grassroots activism is so important and how individuals can get involved with little difficulty and a fairly small time commitment and help to make a huge difference in a marginal seat.

Our next #mobmonday will be for Twitter Queen @KerryMP in Bristol East. This is particularly important as some Tory bloggers with nothing better to do (go and knock on some doors!) have launched a vitriolic campaign to oust Kerry from her seat, mobilising mostly through Twitter. Let’s show the positive power Twitter can have in campaigning and put the Tories to shame by aiming for 500 calls to the residents of Bristol East.

E-mail Kev or Grace at [email protected] for a crib sheet of local issues in Bristol East to assist you with your canvassing and DM either of us on Twitter on @kevpeel or @msgracefh if you have any other questions or queries.

Finally, don’t forget to use Twitter to talk about your experiences whilst you’re taking part using the #mobmonday hashtag – @LabourList will RT the best ones.

Happy Tweeting!
