Gordon Brown has given an interview to the Guardian, published this morning, in which he shows his confidence and charge ahead of the election:
“What do they say? ‘Show me a solider who has made no mistakes and I’ll show you a soldier who has won no battles.’ You have to be honest and say that sometimes you do make mistakes. But equally if you are determined to do something, if you’ve got strong willpower, then you are going to push things forward.”
And as Labour unveils its 5 key election pledges on a new pledge card in Nottingham today, Brown has also uses the Guardian interview to signal a tougher stance on anti-social behaviour, with a new entitlement for people to take out civil injunctions funded by the local authorities, if police are not taking action quickly enough.
Other interesting snippets that come out of the Gaurdian interview include:
* Brown is to ask Sir Tim Berners Lee to draw up plans on how government progress against key guarantees can be measured online.
* The “largest set of constitutional reforms this country has ever seen”.
* Voice and choice in public services – and “a greater sense that people have more control over their own lives”.
