A new ComRes poll for tomorrow’s Independent on Sunday and Sunday Mirror shows the gap between Labour and the Tories at 7 points, with the Tories up two to 39%, Labour also up two points to 32%, and the Lib Dems on 16%, dripping four points since an equivalent poll on a March 30th.
ComRes also reports:
“When asked to choose from a range of four possible election outcomes, however, voters are split down the middle between a Conservative government, including a minority government supported by the Liberal Democrats (49%), and a Labour government, including one supported by the Lib Dems (51%).”
Promisingly, Alistair Darling is also chosen as respondents’ first choice chancellors. Asked who would make best chancellor, respondents answered:
Alistair Darling 23%, Vince Cable 21%, George Osborne 19%, Don’t know/none 37%
In other questions, 44% agree that the Tories are not yet ready for government, while 44% disagree.
The topline figures, translated on a uniform swing to a hung parliament, would deliver a hung parliament, with the Tories 21 seats short of a working majority on 305 seats to Labour’s 280.
