Tory MP says they have “no chance” of winning by-election

Tory MP Bob Stewart has lashed out at his party’s by-election campaign in Feltham and Heston, saying they have “no chance” of winning the seat from Labour. According to the Mail on Sunday, Stewart said:

“There was no proper welcome and no briefing prior to me going out canvassing. It was hugely discouraging…There is absolutely no chance of us winning there. I wasted my time all day today and I will not be doing so again.”

In response Tory whip Michael Fabricant is believed to have said:

“I have to say I have never received such a pompous and ridiculous email before.”

What’s particularly interesting is that Stewart is on the right of the party, and although older and more experienced than many of the 2010 intake “awkward squad”, he could still be counted among their number. That he has gone rogue to such an extent may be a source of concern for the Prime Minister…
