Today Ed Miliband is launching “Labour’s action plan to protect family budgets” as part of the build up to the May local elections. However, perhaps more interesting is the return of the “pledge card” (albeit masked as an action plan card – I believe it’s being referred to as a pledge card within the party). The pledge card was an important part of Labour’s 1997 election campaign – those pledges spoke to what Labour was about and what Britain would be under Labour. At the moment we lack the policies to have that kind of pledge card, but the “action plan card” is a positive step in that direction.
