Aidan Burley caused anger and outrage with his attacks on the Olympic opening ceremony, labelling it “leftie multi-cultural crap”. He then claimed he was misunderstood, before trying to defend himself saying he was standing up for local people.
Not a great performance.
So it’s no surprise to see that the Labour candidate to face Burley will be chosen on September 8th as one of the early seat selections. A Labour source told LabourList this morning:
“There is huge anger in Cannock Chase and the country, we want people of Cannock Chase to have a Labour candidate in place as soon as possible to reflect that anger.”
The shortlisting for the seat has already taken place. We’ll let you know the shortlist as son as we have it (or you can email us with any details).
And you can still donate to Cannock Chase CLP via our Bye Bye Burley fund – and give that Labour candidate the best possible chance of beating Burley in 2015.
