After former Tory MP for Sheffield Hallam Irvine Patnick was revealed to be one of the sources of “despicable untruth” about Liverpool fans in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster, a Labour councillor for Hillsborough ward in Sheffield has backed calls for Patnick to lose his knighthood. Councillor Bob Johnson said:
“What he was spouting was vile…If we can strip ‘Fred the Shred’ of his knighthood we can do it for him [Patnick]. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. To make up stories like that was diabolical. As if it wasn’t bad enough that the tragedy happened.”
Johnson has also suggested that Sheffield Wednesday should bar him from their ground:
“I’d hate to see him at Hillsborough after this. It’s not party political. If it was one of my own I’d say the same.”
